Julesburg, Colorado

Geographically the only Pony Express station that crests into the North-East tip of Colorado before breaching Wyoming, Julesberg in the 1860's was just about as western as western gets; gunfights, stage-robbing, conmen and dangerous women. It even burned to the ground by Native American resistance, but bounced and rebuilt in less than two years, tougher than ever.

The visitor's center at Julesburg is home to the bronze Pony Express statue called 'God Speed The Boy and The Pony'. It is especially picturesque in the fall, as the now-peaceful town was founded on a bend of the South Platte river that is directly under some of the most heavy bird migrations in that part of the country.
