Casper, Wyoming

Fort Caspar guards a crossing over the Platte River in Wyoming, and marks the halfway point between California and Missouri. It was a popular bridge for a generation of many factions of emigrants. It was also a constant target for numerous Native American raids. Red Cloud, the famous leader of the Sioux tribe, raided and killed Lt. Caspar Collins, the namesake of this site. For the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express carrying the mail through, crowds gathered to celebrate the switching of the mochila in honor of the Pony Riders who helped connect the people of the West.
